THE COTTAGE TULIP
This green and pink bedroom redesign in Nashville started with a full declutter and organization session to help transform the space from a childhood room into a functional, beautiful guest bedroom. After clearing out years of clutter, I was hired back to completely redesign the room, maintaining the original pink and green color palette, but elevating it to feel more sophisticated, stylish, and grown-up. The result is a cozy and welcoming space that honors the homeowner's memories while working perfectly for their daughter’s new chapter as a college graduate.
A SENTIMENTAL SPACE REIMAGINED
This bedroom had been frozen in time since my client’s daughter’s childhood. Still filled with the green and pink charm she loved growing up, it no longer suited her current stage of life, graduating college and stepping into adulthood. The family wanted to preserve what made the space special while giving it a more sophisticated and functional purpose: a welcoming guest room that still felt uniquely hers.
STEP ONE: CLEARING THE CLUTTER
Before any design could begin, we started with a full organization and decluttering session. Over the years, the room had accumulated items that no longer served a purpose. We thoughtfully sorted through everything, keeping meaningful belongings while letting go of the rest. This step laid the foundation for a calm, inviting space.
A FRESH LOOK WITH FAMILIAR PIECES
Rather than starting from scratch, this family chose to keep many of the original furniture pieces that held sentimental value.
The bed, dresser, and mirror were all original, and we updated them with fresh paint to give them a timeless, elegant look.
The existing glass chandelier remained in place, adding vintage charm and soft sparkle.
We replaced the outdated green carpet with a neutral beige flooring, instantly brightening the room.
The walls were repainted in a creamy white, creating a soft backdrop that allowed the green and pink accents to shine in a more refined way.
BLENDING PAST AND PRESENT
The result is a room that beautifully blends nostalgia with new purpose. The original pink and green color palette feels updated and grown-up, and the layout now functions as a peaceful, welcoming guest room. It’s a perfect example of how honoring a space’s history can work hand-in-hand with a modern refresh.
