LITTLE SWIMMERS’ LOO

JACK AND JILL BATHROOM REDESIGN

This Jack and Jill bathroom transformation is anything but basic. Once a standard builder-grade space, it’s now filled with vintage charm, rich layered colors, and playful sophistication—designed to grow with two young boys while still reflecting elevated style. From creative storage solutions to unique finishes, this one-of-a-kind bathroom proves that designing for children can be both practical and beautiful. Located just outside Nashville, this project is part of a full-home refresh that blends function with personality.

DESIGNING A BATHROOM THAT GROWS WITH THEM

When designing for children, especially toddlers, it’s easy to default to overly themed or overly juvenile spaces. But for this Jack & Jill bathroom just outside of Nashville, the goal was to create a space that felt playful and age-appropriate now, but could grow with the boys for years to come. The layout was already functional, so we kept the original vanity, floor tile, and tub tile, using those as a foundation for a new, elevated look.

LAYERING IN VINTAGE CHARM AND FUNCTION

To bring personality and function into the space, I started by painting the walls a fresh, clean white. From there, it was all about mixing vintage-inspired elements with playful sophistication. A beautiful Facebook Marketplace find—a dark wood storage cabinet full of character—added both function and a lived-in feel. Green scalloped mirrors above the sinks brought in color and charm, while new gold hardware provided a polished, classic contrast. These small upgrades made a huge visual impact without requiring a full renovation.

WHIMSY THROUGH COLOR AND TEXTURE

Teal blue gingham curtains and coordinating blue towels introduced a lighthearted, nostalgic pattern that feels both timeless and fun. Whimsical artwork added that final personal touch, celebrating childhood without making the space feel too young. By layering color, texture, and carefully chosen vintage pieces, this builder-grade bathroom was transformed into a warm, joyful space full of charm—one that the boys can enjoy well beyond their toddler years.
