THE INDIGO ROOM
A classic blue and white retreat with personal touches and timeless style. After completing other spaces in their home, these longtime clients were ready to turn their attention to their own bedroom — creating a peaceful, traditional space filled with meaning, comfort, and character.
A LONG-AWAITED PRIMARY BEDROOM MAKEOVER
Some of my favorite projects are the ones that feel like a continuation of a story — and this was definitely one of them. I had already worked with these wonderful clients on several other spaces in their home, but like many homeowners, they had saved their primary bedroom for last.
After years of focusing on shared spaces and making their home beautiful for family and guests, they were finally ready to create a bedroom that felt like a retreat — just for them.
A SPACE THAT REFLECTS THEIR STYLE
From the very beginning, they were clear about what they loved: the color blue, a traditional design style, and a room that felt calm, tailored, and personal. They wanted something classic — nothing trendy — and something that would still feel beautiful five, ten, or twenty years from now.
We chose a soft but rich blue and white palette, incorporating layers of indigo, navy, and crisp ivory throughout the room. The result is a space that feels clean and collected, but still cozy.
BRINGING IN MEANINGFUL DETAILS
One of my favorite things about this room is the floral artwork above the chest of drawers, which was originally created for their wedding. Rather than buying new art, we built the room around something deeply personal — giving it a prominent place and adding some fun colors to the room.
We also included a dedicated area for books, knowing how important it was for them to have both storage and space to unwind. We were able to save money by using their existing nightstands and purchased a gorgeous white bookcase that added function without overwhelming the room, keeping everything feeling light and balanced.
CLASSIC AND COMFORTABLE
The Indigo Room is a great reminder that you don’t have to rush to the finish line to create something meaningful. Sometimes waiting until the end means you’ve had time to figure out exactly what you want — and that’s exactly what happened here.
Now, this long-awaited bedroom is no longer just a space to sleep — it’s a space to breathe, to read, to recharge, and to simply enjoy.
